Everything you need to know about Brow Henna

Posted on June 7, 2019 || Tags: ,

How wonderful it would be to wake up one morning with your brows prepared and all ready to go! With henna you can do precisely that. It temporarily tints your eyebrows in an all-natural way so you can avoid using any pencils for a while. And let’s be fair, you can’t get around it anymore – henna brows are hot! They are making a bold statement about you everywhere you go, bring out confidence and emphasise your beautiful looks.

What exactly is henna?

By using henna to stain the skin beneath the brow hairs the aim is to cast a shadow and create an illusion of depth in your brows making them visually bolder and more pronounced. Henna is a natural dye created from a plant known as hina or the henna tree. It has been around since the ancient Egyptian times when it was used for various purposes, such as clothes, dyeing hair, make up and for temporary body art.

When used for brows, henna is very similar to other colouring, however, henna brows usually use all natural approach with shades developed specifically for eyebrows. There is a variety of colours to match your hair, so that you don’t end up with super dark brows that would make them appear too sharp.

There is a common misconception that you can create a whole new shape with brow henna, but that is far from truth. You can make your eyebrows fuller and fill up bald spots but brow henna does not colour the skin if there is no hair above it. It might stay on for a day or two but that’s it. So you have to have at least some eyebrow hairs to achieve the intended more natural result.

What’s the process and how long will they be visible?

We did research on the con’s of using henna and one of the most common problems was the application of the henna to the eyebrows. So if you don’t want to wake up with some shoddy looking brows for two weeks, we suggest visiting a professional who can apply the henna for you. A professional will use products to protect your skin and ensure that your brows don’t only look fabulous but ensure your skin is happily delighted too.

We at West One MYB use a brand called Supercilium which is based on the purest and finest long-lasting henna from India and the latest techniques in hair colouring. The brand also reflects our own ethical values by using tint that is made in an ecological minded factory free of cruelty and completely vegan.

The henna colouring process takes only 5 to 20 minutes and leaves the skin under your brows looking bold and beautiful for up to 2 weeks and on the hair for up to 6 weeks. It’s worth to note that the actual time brow henna stays on your skin depends on your skin type, like with any make-up, it will probably not survive the maximum time on the oily skin types.

Advice from professionals

The cleaner the skin the better henna will penetrate it. By scrubbing the eyebrows in advance, you remove any dead skin cells so the dye can do its job even better. Therefore, if you scrub your skin before coming to us for a treatment it would improve the chances that henna will stay on longer, even though we would clean it up before the treatment too. It is also recommended that you minimise the use of oil-based products on or around your eyebrows and keep them dry for at least a day after the treatment.

At West One MYB we always aim to provide the best quality treatment available as well as caring for your health and wellbeing, which is why we require a patch test 24 hours before Brow Henna treatment.
